Our position

  • Keep great public schools open. Schools anchor communities. Families need stability to plan years ahead. Closure threats weaken trust and push families away.
  • Closures won’t fix the budget. Other districts have lost students and funding to large-scale closures. Promised efficiencies haven’t fixed their budgets.
  • Make public schools work for everyone. Maintain academic excellence and support every learner. Keep families from every socioeconomic background invested.

01History & community

Old buildings. A distinct school community.

The original John Hay campus served Queen Anne children for decades before John Hay moved to its present site in 1989. The older buildings then housed interim schools, New Options Middle School and a bilingual orientation program. [3]

The board named this campus Queen Anne Elementary in January 2010. Its first students spent a year at Lincoln while construction finished, then entered the renovated school in fall 2011. [3]

Families moved temporarily again during the 2018–19 expansion. The reopened campus gained eight classrooms, a full-size gym and a makerspace. Queen Anne and today’s John Hay have connected histories and distinct school communities. [3]
